Celebrity’s Galapagos – Bringing a Living Classroom to Cruising
A cruise to the Galapagos Islands with Celebrity is like nothing you’ve ever experienced, no matter how many times you’ve sailed with us. These all-inclusive adventures allow you to observe the world at its most unspoiled, giving you a firsthand look at the species that inspired the theory explaining the very foundations of life on this planet. As you gaze through the window into what all the world once looked like, you’ll be doing it in a way that ensures future generations will be equally inspired by these surroundings, all while reveling in the attention to detail and world-class service that distinguish a Celebrity cruise.
CELEBRITY XPEDITION – A SHIP LIKE NO OTHER IN OUR FLEET
Your travels through this magical archipelago take place on Celebrity Xpedition, a ship perfectly suited for this kind of adventure. Smaller and more intimate – accommodating just 96 guests – she sails with 60 staff members, a much higher ratio than most ships, ensuring each guest gets the kind of attention that Celebrity is known for. Each sailing is also accompanied by naturalist guides certified by the Galapagos National Park. These knowledgeable experts will help put what you’ve seen each day into context, help you prepare for the coming day’s adventures, and make personalized recommendations for shore excursions.
ALL-INCLUSIVE ALLOWS YOU TO BE 100% FOCUSED
To make your adventure as enjoyable and as personally fulfilling as possible, each 10-night+ Galapagos experience is all-inclusive, with everything from gratuities and the flight from Quito to Baltra to daily guided shore excursions and park entrance fees included in the price of your cruise. This give you the freedom to focus on your surroundings – the vibrant hues of the blue-footed booby, the nearly imperceptible movements of a 100-year-old Galapagos tortoise, and some of the hundreds of other species found nowhere else.
TRAVELING LIGHTER IS THE MORE ENLIGHTENED APPROACH
When you look out upon these islands, you’ll be seeing them pretty much as Charles Darwin saw them in 1830’s. Thanks in part to our rigorous stewardship, future generations will experience the same sense of wonder. This includes a state-of-the-art waste processing plant onboard Celebrity Xpedition, fully biodegradable bathroom amenities, limited use of paper and plastic, and a reliance on local meat, fish, and organically grown produce. In addition, Celebrity is proud to match any donation* guests make to island preservation, with a cruise credit valid toward any Celebrity cruise of 7-nights or longer.

When you travel on a Celebrity Solstice Class ship, you have the rare opportunity to experience the art of glass blowing up close. As you sit on the top deck adjacent to the Lawn Club, you and a small number of guests will look on as gaffers from the Corning Museum of Glass carefully manipulate molten glass inside the 2,300 degree furnace, watching as a special, heat-resistant camera placed inside the oven broadcasts the images to large overhead screens. Then, in a moment of pure drama, you’ll gaze in awe as the glass emerges and the gaffers coax it to life, in much the same way that the Hot Glass Show breathes life into this ancient craft.
The Corning Museum of Glass is committed to helping support developing artists and students who aspire to work in one of the world’s most compelling mediums, through education and scholarship programs. The Hot Glass Show, which has been in existence over 10 years, is one of their many outreach programs. At the end of each sailing, Celebrity Cruises and The Corning Museum of Glass will auction off a few of the best pieces created by these artists during the live show, with proceeds being donated to Celebrity Cruises Glassmaking Scholarship Fund, which gives emerging artists the opportunity to study with the world’s best gaffers at The Studio, the museum’s glassmaking school.
You sit at the table, several glasses of wine arrayed before you. As you lift the first to your lips, you pause, deeply inhaling the perfume that emanates from deep inside. A sip yields more than wine…it communicated a complex story of grapes, soil, climate and passion. Fifty years ago, Claus Riedel was the first to understand that the wineglass was not just the teller of that story, but an integral part. Now, thanks to the Riedel Comparative Wineglass Workshop, a collaboration between Riedel and Celebrity Cruises, guests of Celebrity can gain insight into the role a wineglass plays in revealing all aspects of wine.
The program, the first of its kind to be offered by a cruise line, is based on the premise that each vintage is a living, breathing entity, embodying a complex set of characteristics. Riedel Crystal, long acknowledged as one of the world’s foremost producers of fine crystal, stumbled upon the degree to which the size and shape of their wine glasses emphasized the harmony among these attributes quite by accident. But once they realized how their different styles of crystal could impact different vintages and varietals, they began to do some serious research, eventually fine-tuning specific collections to enhance that magic interplay among the senses. And now, certified and specially trained by Riedel professional, Celebrity’s Cellarmasters and Sommeliers conduct a fascinating workshop that demonstrates the profound effect wineglasses have on the perception of wine.
Introduced last year, the Riedel Comparative Wineglass Workshop has proven to be one of the most popular enrichment programs onboard. Riedel Wineglass Workshop is $87 pp and includes a set of 4 Riedel Vinum Series glasses, a $116 value.
Celebrity has various other wine program during each cruise. Guests new to wine can partake in a Wine Appreciation program, Celebrity’s version of Wine 101, which introduces 5 different styles.
Celebrity also offers a Walk Around the World program, in which Sommeliers unearth the secret of 12 vintages from different regions around the world. For those who like to combine the pleasures of fine dining and fine wine, the Connoisseurs dinner, which is hosted by on of Celebrity’s Cellarmasters, features a 5-course meals, each course paired with a specially selected vintage from their extensive wine cellars.

When times are tough, a well-deserved vacation is therapeutic, doctor says Dr. David Hubschmitt, a New Jersey-based psychologist specializing in depression, agrees that vacationing during stressful times can be a good remedy. “A well-timed vacation may offer significant benefits for mental health. The relaxation provides a much-needed change of gears in a time-starved society, and may be an ideal time to reconnect with loved ones traveling with you. For those traveling alone, vacations may lead to a higher level of self discovery.”
A well-chosen vacation, according to experts, offers significant benefits and opportunities, including:
What makes a cruise the perfect vacation therapy? There’s the ease of planning and the convenience of having a “home away from home” for the length of the trip, plus all-inclusive pricing that delivers excellent value. The diversity of cruise experiences means that there is a vacation for every taste, interest and budget. With more than 30 domestic ports of embarkation, millions of Americans are within driving distance of a cruise. And CLIA member lines are doing everything they can to create irresistible incentives. So take a cruise; it’s good for you!
That is the key message of the summer-long “You Deserve a Cruise” promotion just announced by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and its member lines.
From June 8 through August 31, 2009, families, singles, seniors, first-time cruisers, honeymooners and groups of all descriptions will discover the important therapeutic benefits of vacationing as they take advantage of unprecedented cruise values, the latest savings and special cruise incentives.
Many cruise lines and thousands of CLIA-member travel agents are participating to tell consumers across the country that it is okay to travel – that the travel industry is vital to the economy, and they deserve to put daily worries on hold and take a break.
In fact, research, surveys of consumer attitudes and trends, and health professionals increasingly point to the beneficial effects of vacationing. Combined, these realities provide good cause to encourage consumers to take the break they deserve.
Now more than ever, a vacation is what people really need – a break from everyday stresses to get in touch with themselves, their families and what’s important, to reflect on the next steps which could be life-changing, and to renew physically and emotionally.
We are living in challenging times; we deserve the opportunity to reward ourselves while at the same time making a small contribution to the country’s well-being as well.
And, with the incredible, never-seen-before, and likely never to be seen again, values offered by CLIA member lines today, what better time could there be to get some ‘cruise therapy?
